Previous Central Minister O Rajagopal (NDA) has won from Nemam Assembly constituency with a lead of 8671 votes than the sitting MLA V Sivankutty (CPIM). This is the first BJP Constituency in Kerala. O Rajagopal became the First BJP MLA in Kerala. UDF's votes decreased a lot, UDF candidate V Surendran Pilla fell down third place in Kerala Poll 2016
